Tightly Controlled Bass Distinguished by Uncanny Realism, Accuracy, and Clarity: “True Acoustic” Focal Aria 948 Tower Loudspeakers Feature 8.5-Inch Flax Drivers and Poron Suspension
Hearing the deep, tightly controlled bass of a performance reproduced with uncanny realism, astounding accuracy, and down-into-your-chest intensity is like no other experience on earth. The feat makes everything feel in the moment, unleashes emotional responses, and ties together the music with a coherency that brings you face-to-face with the artist. Equipped with two powerful 8.5-inch flax woofers and touting a massive 37Hz to 28kHz frequency response, the Focal Aria 948 tower loudspeakers plumb the bottom end with best-in-class effortlessness. Not that they forget the importance of subtlety. Indeed, this three-way model embraces a “true acoustic” credo that swears by true-to-scale imaging and bracing transparency. Consider The Absolute Sound Editors’ Choice Award-winning Aria 948 the embodiment of aural passion.
In addition to sonic advantages gleaned from flax drivers, Aria 948 benefits from an evolved TNF tweeter. Here, the suspension between the dome and bracket in Focal’s world-famous aluminum/magnesium tweeter employs Poron, a material with shape memory. This suspension method directly derives from Focal’s flagship Utopia Beryllium tweeter and makes it possible to reduce distortion by a factor of three in the 2-3kHz range, where the human ear has very great sensitivity. Equally important, the inverted dome’s spatial characteristics and low directivity deem it greatly superior to conventional domes and ensure an incredibly stable soundstage that makes off-axis listening possible. Try a pair of Aria 948 in your own listening room today with the security of our 100% Music Direct Satisfaction Guarantee and hear why these three-way towers perform far beyond their price point.
“The painstakingly engineered drivers enable the 948s to really strut their stuff when it comes to detail, transparency, and resolution—particularly on vocals, percussion, and strings.”

A Focal Exclusive: Flax Driver Technology
Lightweight, strong, and organic, flax fiber features inherent properties lend to high internal damping, high velocity, and flexural rigidity. Woven flax drivers in Aria Series are lighter than paper drivers, less resonant than plastic drivers, and as stiff as metal drivers. Especially suited for voices, they boast a neutral, rich sound much more natural, clear, and present than that of any of the aforementioned driver types. To give extra flax rigidity, Focal uses the same technique developed for its “W” cone drivers and sandwiches the flax between layers of glass literally baked into shape. The method gives the drivers unique speed and drive – as well as a visual appeal that makes the weave clearly noticeable and showcases the technology underneath.
The Importance of Refinement in a Distracted Age
Refinement can be hard to find in today’s distraction-addled age. Made in a dedicated factory in France with proprietary technology – including aluminum/magnesium tweeters and flax woofers – Focal’s Aria Series reproduces music with an acoustic finesse, naturalism, and smoothness that allow you to pause, slow down, and focus on the performance at hand. Playing with near-undetectable coloration and stunning neutrality, Aria Series features a rich midrange and taut low end that yields expansive, homogenous sound second only to the high-end build and comparatively modest price points.
